Golf Instruction

May 14th, 2009 Golf Grip Tips 0 Comment

When we come to getting golf instruction we want to be sure we are getting the best. We want to get instruction that will begin by ensuring we are assisting our body in getting the action right. Many of us golfers, when performing our golf swing (you can also read back swing here), let our left knee go down on the back swing. The outcome of this is that our shoulder will drop causing our hips to sway and overturn. Don’t allow the knee to move. Good golf posture encourages us to maintain a steady stance. To have a good golf swing you need to maintain that stability, tension if you like, in both your legs. Some instructors suggest holding some kind of ball between your knees, I don’t think that is going to be very practical on the course. See how using your imagination for this works, you could be surprised how effective it is. Go to golf course consultants for more information.

Golf instructors often point out a common fault in beginners and that is they carry out the swing to fast. A key to eliminating this problem with your golf swing is to relax. If you find that you are rushing things try and slow it down a bit. Contrary to what you may think rushing it does not make the down swing any faster and in fact may have the opposite effect. Maintain a steady action for best results. One key to good golf is to get a steady action in your golf swing and this can be achieved by a pause for a brief moment at the top of your golf swing. This will allow you body to relax and compose itself for the coming down swing. Refer to golf course consultants for more information.

Your golf instruction is going to be great if it teaches that your golf is the sum of correctly performed parts. It will look at stance, posture and action. Another key, especially at the beginning, is your grip. Are you able to hold a club right now? Try this. When you have the club at waist height, grip the club with your left hand and your right hand in the “hitchhiker position” (NB: the palm of your hand should neither be facing up nor down), you should see your thumb pointing up. If you don’t get the grip together in the beginning you are not likely to improve you gold swing at all.

To conclude our short list of golf instruction tips today, I am going to end with an exercise you can do that will help establish some of the fundamentals we’ve talked about here. Good instruction will help you to improve your golf swing and to be consistently hitting the ball well you need a steady tempo and be able to keep good balance. These foundational elements are necessary to improve your golf swing. Good instruction will reinforce these fundamentals through practice. Try this. With your feet close together, about 15cm, hit some shots. This is going to make you keep better rhythm, balance and speed and will result in improvement when you return to your normal golf swing stance.

The best thing you can do is to do some research into golf instruction. Getting it, getting it from the right instructor, can really make playing golf that much more enjoyable, and that’s what it is all about in the end isn’t it! Visit golf course consultants for further information.

Electric Golf Trolleys - Do You Have To Be Over 65 To Benefit From One?

May 5th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

If you had asked me this no more than 8 months ago, I would definitely have said yes. The reason is my ego - I am only 46, and I have rarely used a pull trolley, let alone an electric golf trolley.

I had this view, simply because:

- I walk a lot less during a round of golf, because there aren’t any no-go areas if you are carrying a golf bag.
- I can concentrate on my next shot, instead of worrying about my golf trolley being in my golfing partner’s way.
- Only old people use electric golf trolleys!

However, my view has changed very recently. My golf game has gradually got worse and worse since I turned 40, even though I had increased my practise hours to try to correct things. It didn’t matter what I tried, my handicap just kept on increasing, so I eventually sat down to look through my score cards to see if I could spot any pattern (e.g. were specific holes ruining my scorecard). This quickly highlighted that the majority of my high scores happened during the final six or seven holes, which i couldn’t understand, because my three favourite holes are 15, 16 and 18.

It wasn’t until I was discussing what I had discovered during a game, that my usual playing partner said “You are obviously tiring from about hole 11 or 12! You need to save a bit of energy - forget your ego about remaining young, and treat yourself to an electric golf trolley!”.

Well - I couldn’t forget about my ego, so I used my dad’s electric trolley, and I went to the course when i didn’t think any of my usual playing partners would be around. The improvement was incredible - the first round, I knocked five shots off my average score, and, even better, I didn’t need a nap when I got home! I used my dad’s trolley five times in all, and my scores were consistently better than my average, and I felt much less tired - my golf became enjoyable again!

Because the results were so great, I bought an electric golf trolley, which is the best investment I have made in a piece of golf equipment. My average score for a round is seven shots less than when I used to carry a golf bag, and I don’t need to take a sleep right after a round! If you are over 35 you would greatly benefit from buying an electric trolley. Being a lot less tired, allows you to concentrate a lot better during a round, which helps to prevent you from hitting tired shots.

I know I sound like Victor Kiam (if you are old enough to remember him, you definitely need an electric golf cart!), but “I was so impressed with electric golf trolleys, that I bought a company selling them”. If you live in Europe, and you want to look at a good online range of electric golf trolleys, please visit http://ElectricGolfTrolleysonline.co.uk.

Tips to on How to Improve Your Golf Swing

May 1st, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

Whether you are an armature golfer or a seasoned one there are always tips to help your swing and take some strokes off your score. Improving your golf swing is all about learning and perfecting the basic, and then you build from there. The biggest problem is that no two people are the same, and ever body is different and reacts to certain motions completely different. So they key to perfect one's golf swing in their own unique way.

The fundamentals of a swing are as follows;

1. Grip is how you hold the club.
2. Posture is how you set yourself up to the ball. This is a key to a successful golf swing. The width of your stance, the amount of knee flex, the straightening of the back is all aspects of posture. The angle the back maintains throughout the swing and the bending from the hip socket are also related to the posture
3. Pivoting, how you move your body from your head to your toes this excludes your hands and arms.
4. The hand and arm relationship, what the hands and arms do in the golf swing.
5. Alignment, how you pick and set up to your target.
6. The mental side, the ability to play without thinking about it. I would think that this is the most important aspect of the golf game. At times we wonder why is it when we get so frustrated with our poor play that you just get up and hit a great shot without thinking about it? Most sports require 90% of your mental capacity and the rest is skills. Tiger Woods is a good example for this principle.

The first tip would be keeping your head still and keep the eyes fixed on the ball. Doing this will keep the club face the hitting zone. Most often, when you miss a shot, you take your eyes off the ball either by lifting your head even for a split second before taking the shot.

The next tip is to relax as you approach your shot and stay relaxed through your whole swing. Gripping your club to tight and having a rigid stance will play apart in bad play, you need to relax. When you relax, let the club do the work.

So getting back to basics and relaxing should produce a lower game score and better handicap, so you will enjoy your game more.
