Learning The Game On a Public Golf Course

April 30th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

For some people there has always been a somewhat negative perception about a public golf course, with the inference that it is not as well maintained as private courses or country clubs. The reality is, that just like many businesses open to the public, there are good ones and ones that are not so good, and there are others that rival some of the best private courses in terms of grounds condition and amenities. Some also believe that those who play on a public golf course are not serious about the quality of their game.

Pretentiousness aside, a public golf course gets considerably more play than private courses, requiring more maintenance and requires a grounds crew that understands what foot traffic and an abundance of divots can do to the condition of the fairways. Some of the better crews working at a public golf course can maintain the links to a condition that rivals the country clubs and a private golf course, without the added expense of membership.

It has also been said that the true measure of a person can be found on the golf course as their patience and integrity is often put to the test. How well a person reacts to difficult situations and well as those where decisions about doing the right thing are frequent on the golf course and others will be watching, albeit from a distance and often unknowingly.

Cost Is Often Major Consideration Choosing Courses

Having the notation of being a public golf course does not always equate to being less expensive. While private courses play only to those holding a valid membership, the public golf course is available to everyone and if the course owner hopes to maintain it in an appropriate manner, they may have to charge more than other public courses in the area to pay for the better care and treatment of the facility.

It takes more than a name to establish a well-known golf course and the people that own and operate the course can make it a pleasure to visit or a travesty. Remember though, that even if the owner of the course is not well liked, chances are they will only be seen when starting to play. From then on, golfers are alone on the golf course, meandering through the acreage and lost in their own competition.

At prices that may be higher than what many vacationers are used to paying, booking a golf travel package will be worth the extra money to play on a well-maintained and challenging golf course. Especially when they can go home and brag about their great game on a great golf course while on vacation.

The idea is to make all kinds of golfers happy with the golf club set that suits them perfectly well. You will find good variety in colors, styles and designs, which means you will find your perfect match easily. But when you are looking for a golf club set to suit your needs, there are certain things that you need to look out for.

The Style Of The Golf Club Set

A mens golf club set can be found in a wide variety of attractive styles. The style of golf club set that is chosen will have a great deal to do with what appeals to the golfer the most. If the person prefers to own items that are modern, then the best mens golf club set for that person will be of a modern style as well. A golf club set does not have to match anything else that the person owns so any attractive style may be purchased as long as it fits into the person’s budget for a new golf club set.

The Price Of The Golf Club Set

Have a fixed price in mind even before you start your shopping. Prices are quite flexible with golf clubs. Whatever figure you have in mind as your budget, you are sure to find a mens golf club set to match within that range. So, you need to decide on how much you will spend first. In case you want something special, like a customized golf club set, you have to be ready to pay more. Standard golf club sets that you can get directly from the store will be cheaper. But remember to decide your budget first because some of these can tend to be very expensive.

The Size Of The Golf Club Set

Once again, the size depends on your own size. Are you big or are you small? You will get sets with golf clubs in them to match your size. Also, you have to see how advanced you are with golfing. If you are just starting out, most of the higher end golf clubs will be of useless to you; you will be spending in vain on these. The size depends on your comfort of use and that is the reason experts recommend trying out each golf club before spending on them.

Reviewing The Evolution Of Golf Balls

Golf Balls were not always made the same way that they are today, as they have gone through many changes throughout the years. During the earliest part of the 17th century, they were actually made of goose feathers and cowhide. The cowhide was used as the outer hull and the feathers were used as the stuffing. The process used in making these “featherie” balls was long and somewhat difficult. Because of this, they were also quite expensive.

In 1948, Dr Robert Adams invented balls that were made from Sapodilla tree sap. The sap was heated, which allowed it to be molded into a round shape. However, it was quickly realized that perfectly round balls did not fly as far as balls that had a somewhat irregular shape to them. After this discovery, the balls were produced with the irregular shape to them on purpose, allowing for farther and better flying. The balls were also much cheaper than those that had been produced before. It was then that almost every golf club in existence began using these “guttie” balls for tee times.

In the last century, golf balls were made with multiple layers, consisting of a liquid center, a rubber thread wound tight over it and having a cover put on it to make our modern ball. The country club hills of today have slowly played a part in refining the design to what it is today. Nowadays, they are made as 2, 3 or 4 layered balls, and materials like surlyn or urethane are used to form the layers. The dimples on these balls make it possible for them to be hit farther than plain balls because of the lift and drag effect on them.

Today, to be considered regulation golf balls, the balls need to be completely spherical in shape. This is a requirement of the US Golf Association. They must also be 1.62 ounces or less in weight. There are other sizes of balls that are available; however, those balls are never used in regulation play. The two types of balls in existence are the recreational ball and the advanced balls. Balls that are used for recreational play are most often made with two layers, while the advanced balls are made with three layers. The advanced balls are more expensive and have more spinning power.

Junior Golf Instruction - When To Start Golf Lessons

April 21st, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

A question we hear all of the time is “When should we start junior golf instruction for our junior golfer?” Obviously, there is no real answer. For example, you have Tiger that started at the tender age of three and other successful tour players started their junior golf instruction much later. Go to golf course consultants for further information.

With many differing opinions are out there about when to begin junior golf instruction, you must remember that opinions are like belly buttons and everyone has one! Hale Irwin was once quoted as saying, “If a parent brings a young child to a Pro and says I want him/her to be a Golf Professional, chances are they won.t be.” The two most important part to the answer the question of “When should we start golf lessons for our junior golfer?” is that no matter what age your junior golfer is to make sure golf is something the junior golfer wants to do and to keep it fun for them.

First, you need to ask yourself some questions about what your motivation might be for getting junior golf instruction? Typically, there are four reasons that parents want junior golf instruction for their young child (under eleven):

1. Because of golf’s reputation for rules, fair play and self-policing, the parents have a genuine interest in seeing their children attempt to play the game.
2. A babysitting service, parents get a time out from their kids for a while.
3. Parents want to spend more time with their child and have decided that golf will be the vehicle to do this.
4. As so many do, parents feel that their children must be in as many activities as possible.

Again, whatever the reasons, the important thing is to let the kids have fun, enjoy themselves and let them decide for themselves whether they want to play the game of golf or not. Refer to golf course consultants for more information.

Regardless of how brilliant parents think their child is, young children (under eleven) do not have the attention spans for kids golf lessons. However, they do like to have fun and to some hitting balls is fun. As soon as you make it a chore by hovering over them with golf instructions, they will not want to play the game anymore. Think about it, would you?

If you want your youngster to enjoy golf, then don’t force the action. If they want to hit balls, let them. If they want to pick golf balls up and throw them, as long as they will not disturb anyone else, let them. If they want to hit their ball into the sand bunker, let them. When you think about it, a bunker is much smaller than the green and in theory, much harder to hit. Depending on their age, let them tee it up from 100 yards or 150 yards. Again, keep it a positive experience and fun for the junior golfer.

If you do decide to take junior golf instruction the Golf Professional should concentrate mainly on short game, putting, chipping etc. The Golf Professional should show you as well as your junior many different games that you can play to keep it fun. In the meantime, the games will instill solid golf swing fundamentals which will help you and your junior to improve! Article written by golf course consultants in South Africa.

April 19th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

Since more and more women play a game of golf, women’s golf club sets become things which are most wanted. In the past, golf was affirmed as a men’s only sport, but nowadays it is no longer valid. All of a sudden, women become a promising market currently and women’s sports wear includes women’s golf club have appeared a dime a dozen.

It was Annika Sorenstam who accompanied the surge of appreciation for women playing golf. currently, there are lots of women’s golf club sets and women’s golf wear spread out. Golf enthusiasts know that the right golf club sets can enermously improve a person’s game. Thus, let us scrutinize as to how we can get the best women’s golf club sets for you.

Go to a Pro Golf Club Fitter Best

Of course, you can imitate what men do to find the best women’s golf club sets i.e. going to someone who comprehends what they’re carrying out. You can also go to a store which has a pro golf club fitter. These are some ideas on what to ask your professional fitter as to top women’s golf club sets

It is crucial to identify your hold. hold is determined by the size of your hands; it is the most inexpensive thing in a women’s golf club set. hold have a propensity to harden, get slick, oxidize, and then loose their hold as time goes by. The hold that have their best hold are commonly the one’s that loose their grasps the fastest.

So, to play it safe, buy the highest quality grip with a greater normal longevity, but not the most absolute highest grip factor. This way when you don’t change your grip frequantly, you will still have good grips.

But it is proposed that you change your grip occasionally it will have a positive effect on your game. Think of your women’s golf club sets like a car that needs oil change regularly, except that its grip needs to be changed every 3,000 rounds or six months.

Next thing to consider is length, the length of your women’s golf club sets is vital both for comfort and swing momentum. In general the longer the golf club the farther the ball will travel, but then it will be very difficult to control. So my counsel especially for beginners is to find the right length that is balance to your height, and the distance between your wrist and the ground when in astride position.

Lastly consider the flex of your women’s golf club sets. Stiffer shafts are typically better for stronger hitting golfers, so go ahead and half the professional golf fitter asses the strength of your swing.

In fact, you don not need to expend much money for women’s golf club sets just to be a skilled player. A good playing does not depend on the pricey equipment exactly. Hence, do examination and go to a wallet friendly store.

Golf Tips - Find Superior Advice on Refreshing Alternatives

April 11th, 2009 Golf Grip Tips 0 Comment

For most beginning golfers, the game of golf may seem simple, yet upon closer inspection, it quickly becomes overwhelming.

An important point to keep in mind is that simple golf swing is an efficient starting point.

You are given the task of hitting a golf ball hundreds of yards into a small hole the size of a Dixie™ cup. Luckily, sand traps, water hazards, hills and other elements are placed along the course to make this learning experience that much more agonizing.

Not only is this overwhelming to a novice player, but add in the giant bag of clubs that are all different shapes and sizes, and the game of golf becomes an anxiety-driven punishment. What is a “driver”? What is a “club”? When is each supposed to be used?

An even more important question can be what is the most effective golf swing speed to use?

An important point to keep in mind in the game of golf is that there are three clubs available for you to use: drivers, woods and putters. Each club serves a different purpose and will cause a ball to travel differently from a tee or the ground.

Combining the correct club with the correct golf club swing speed is a potent combination. First, let’s get the clubs straight. Understanding this difference will transform the game of golf into a pleasurable pastime.

Firstly, the clubs you use must be appropriate for your stature. Clubs that are too short will leave you with an aching back, and clubs that are too long will leave you chopping into the course.

To become comfortable with the game of golf, you must begin with the proper equipment. A professional golf shop will be able to size your clubs accordingly.

Drivers and woods are used for distance. These are the clubs that the game of golf begins with.

Reserve the putter for when you have reached the green. You need to feel comfortable with all three of these clubs, as they can make or break your game.

Alot of the best golf swings come after extensive use of golf swing analysis software. Mull over the many aspects of a golf swing, and see that the most effective swing comes from constant practise and analysis.

A driving range is an excellent way to become familiarized with your golf equipment before you start golfing on the course, and is of course a great place to conduct your golf swing analysis and training.

Grip the club with your prominent hand below your other hand. The butt of the upper hand should rest at or near the end of the club assuming your clubs have been appropriately fitted to your height.

Posture-wise, you should stand to the side of the ball. Do not hunch over it or the fluid motion of your swing will be severely impacted.

Keep your arms bent slightly and place the club at the back of the ball. This is the perfect distance between you and the ball.

To develop your swing, you can practice without a ball and swing at the empty tee, learning the feel of your club and how to control the club so it is be within the ideal strike zone.

Certain clubs are designed to aid you in hazards such as sand traps. Mastering these tools will help you upon the misfortune that you land in one of these fun golf course elements.

Sand traps require a sand wedge, which helps you hit the ball from the sand. The consistency of the sand matters as well, as softer sand requires more effort on your part.

Practice with your equipment and understand their capabilities, and you will soon be on your way to enjoying the wonderful game of golf.

Amazing golf courses

April 8th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

These five course are my personal favourites they can be argued but you cant argue with the amazing quality of these courses. Get those electric golf trolleys ready, here come the best of the best.

5. Number five is Shinecock Hills golf club
A stunning course that has hosted four US opens so far. A very challenging course indeed you will struggle to make your handicap on this one. This course was designed way back in 1891 and had major works to it in 1930 and since then the course has remained in pretty much the same way, which of course is brilliant.

4. The oldest course ever? St Andrews
This is more than likely the oldest golf course in the world with golf rumoured to have been played here way back in the 12th century. Although this course is the home of golf it apprently doesnt treat newcomers very well. This is a course that you have to get to know before you like playing here so many other golfers have said.

3. Cypress point golf club
Most people are very unlikely to ever get to play here as it only has 250 members but the last four holes of the course have been called the best four of all time. This had to come into the top five, I have never actually played this course but always wanted too.

2. Royal County Down is number two
This course has been voted the best course in the UK, locaded in Ireland it was designed way back in 1889 with huge modifcations made in 1908. This took the number two slot simply because it is a fantastic course with some of the best golf I have ever played.

1.Number one is the fantastic Pine Valley
This course is stunning both in looks and in the way it plays which is why in my opinion it has taken the number one spot in this list. This course has great caddies and in itself is brilliant with the only problem being the 10ft deep bunker with no sand in it! If you get the ball into this bunker then it is certain you are not going to get it out.

Thats it, the top five golf courses in world have now been chosen. No need to charge up those golf batteries when you have the caddies at these places to drag your clubs around for you.
