The Future Of Golf Course Landscape Design Is Rosy

Golf Course Landscape Design

The rapid rise of golf has led the sport to have become one of the most popular individual activities in the entire world and this rise must give every golf lover reason to rejoice. Today, there are more than, it is believed, thirty-two thousand different golf courses spread in all corners of the world that only goes to show just how popular this sport has become. With so many golf courses around it also stands to reason that each of them has a very special golf course landscape design; in fact, the variety of such designs are amazing and are actually revolutionizing the way that golf courses are being built in these modern times.

Better And Bigger Golf Courses

Now-a-days, many more people are picking up a golf club and are taking to this sport in greater numbers. This popularity and rapid growth in numbers of golfers is making it necessary to have even better as well as bigger golf courses. It is therefore not too far fetched to say that future golf course landscape designs will be bright and will represent major changes in the way that golf courses are constructed.

Older generations of golfers are on the verge of retiring from the game and many in fact, have already retired gracefully. You don’t see too much of guys such as Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye on the golf courses and so there is now a lot of room for younger and more forward thinking designers to step in and bring with them their own and new golf course landscape designs, which is good news for every lover of golf.

Of course, the traditional minded designers had a lot of flair that is perhaps missing in the new and younger generation of designers. Still, with the likes of Paul Albanese and Jeff Brauer around the future of golf course landscape design is in good hands because these people have been baptized by fire and have earned their reputations the hard way.

To come up with the best golf course landscape designs requires having a sound educational base as well as plenty of practice in design work. Modern golf course landscape design is different from the traditional styles and this change in style is helping to make modern championship courses harder to negotiate and more challenging to competitors than the courses that incorporated older golf course landscape designs.

Before thinking about membership at a golf course it will certainly be a good idea to first of all read a golf course reviews about a particular golf course so that you know beforehand what to expect and whether or not it makes sense to become a member of that golf course.

Current golf course landscape designs represent more than just an extension of the more traditional designs and the future looks rosy because many innovations can be expected in the times to come. In fact, future designs will be different as they will need to take into account modern equipment as well as abilities of both average players and the more accomplished pros.

A Good Golf Bag Makes For A Pleasurable Round Of Golf

February 13th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

Golfers with better golf grip take their game seriously whether they are amateurs or professionals. Most golfers play eighteen holes of golf at one time, and they need to have a whole range of supplies with them on a round that might last up to four hours. You can get from New York to Chicago in less time than it takes to play a round of golf. The club house with supplies of food and golf equipment might be a great distance from the holes at the farthest end of the golf course. If a golfer loses a ball, he or she cannot just run back to the pro shop to buy another ball. A hungry or thirsty golfer cannot stop play to get a bottle of water or a sandwich to continue play.

The golfer carries his food and water supplies in the golf bag in order to avoid delay or cessation of play. The game of golf is played according to strict protocols and leaving the course to return later is not acceptable except for dangerous conditions like a thunderstorm. Besides food, water and golf balls, a golfer takes a wide variety of clubs in the golf bag. The dedicated golfer with good golf backswing has several wood clubs in the golf bag to hit the distance shots, a selection of irons for the fairways and traps. Every golfer has at least one putter and this must go along for the full eighteen holes in the golf bag. Some golfers may get through eighteen holes with the same ball, but other golfers may lose several balls. Some golfers may lose several balls in one lake. All golfers take some extra balls in their golf bag.

The Wrong Golf Bag Could Bring Four Hours of Misery

All the necessary equipment loaded into a good golf bag is heavy so a smart golfer with good golf swing does not want to increase the weight by selecting a heavy bag. A good golf bag will have many convenient compartments, but it will not weigh too much and add additional weight to the load. Golfers want to have easy access to their equipment so the way a golf bag is organized can make access to the necessary items easier. If a golfer just hit his ball into a tree, he or she is probably annoyed and frustrated. This is not the time or place to search through a big bag for a new ball. That frustration may just get the golfer back into the tree for a second time.

Achieve Distance And Accuracy In Your Golf Swing

February 12th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

All golfers hope to get that perfect golf swing which they can always rely on. It is a swing that can be used effectively with either a wood or iron. You can tee off and drive with it, adapting to changes in wind and terrain. It is a swing that can get you out of bad situations like bunkers and even water. It is a swing that is as simple as it can get, yet can be versatile and dependable.

That isn’t happening though if your swing has slice.

Perfecting that golf swing definitely isn’t easy, no matter how you look at it. It takes a lot of experimentation and practice to get the kinks out of the swing. However, the real fact about this is that it is actually simpler than you think. It is mostly about what you do during your swing.

Simplify

One tip that always works is to always keep your swing simple. With as few movements as possible, you can take away unnecessary movements that may be both a waste of energy and bad for your swing. There is no real need for your elbows to bend during the swing and you have to only pivot with your feet as you follow through. There is no need to take an extra step or anything, which can skew with the shot.

Rhythm

Of course, if you can’t improve by yourself, then get a coach who can teach you the finer points of improving your golf swing. Balance and correct positioning are crucial to a good golf swing. However, without rhythm, you can never achieve these two things. You are to ensure that you can have a smooth rhythm in your swing to fix whatever you need to fix. You can hum a tune, sing a song, count, or do whatever is necessary to get a rhythm down to swing correctly.

Hand and Wrist Position

Another tip is to always mind hand and wrist position. One of the major causes of slicing is that the club is twisted during the swing, which makes it hit the ball in a crooked manner, driving it in directions other than straight ahead. This is due to the hands and wrists twisting during the swing because of wrong positioning. The technique must be refined in order to correct this mistake.

Interlocking your hands by connecting the little and ring finger of your dominant hand with the index and middle finger of your complementary hand (never call that other hand ‘weak’) to solve this problem. This can help you prevent that unnecessary twist with a little practice. It can also help you improve in terms of accuracy and distance.

Straighten Your Spine

Always have your spine straight and acting as an axis for your swing. The importance of spine alignment can never be understated when it comes to golf. Imagine yourself as a pendulum with your spine as the point of axis. This can help you simplify your golf swing in a great deal.

Hip Rotation

With that spine straight and fingers interlocked, you must also remove excess hip rotation in your golf swing. While lots of hip rotation is something that can make a punch stronger, this is not boxing. In golf, that hip rotation causes slicing, and that can damage your game. Therefore, you must keep hip rotation as minimum as it is required. However, don’t mistake this for removing hip rotation in your swing as it is still required to generate power in your swing.

Therefore, study how much hip rotation is needed to improve your swing. These tips, if implemented with lots of practice, can help you get rid of that slice and achieve improvement in distance and accuracy of your golf swing.

Concepts Of Golf Swing For Seniors

February 12th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

Are you above 50 years old?  Do you stop playing golf because you fear injury?  If you still want to play, you may need to make some adjustments on how you grip your golf club.  This is to ensure that you will not develop golfer’s wrist or hamate bone.

What is golfer’s wrist?

Golfer’s wrist is an injury in the wrist where you feel tenderness and pain.  This injury may need surgery and takes time to heal.  To help senior golfers, Johnny Miller has a revised his teaching to conform to the senior’s bone condition. To continue enjoying the game and avoiding injury you need to follow his instructions.

Swing for seniors

The concepts of golf swing for seniors is just like the golf swingfor younger players, your start from the backswing, then hit the ball on the downswing and make a follow-through.  However, one minor revision that Johnny Miller teaches is to cock the hands on the backswing and keep the right elbow close to the hip.

While for younger players, back swing is done by stretching the arms fully to make a wide arc as you bring down the club towards the downswing. Cocking the club will come later, as compared to the senior where cocking comes earlier.

Still the swing needs power, but seniors are advised to be more strategic rather than exert greater power that may put them at risk.  If you usually reach 300 yards when you are younger, hitting the ball after 50 can be 200 yards or less.  You only need to make sure that the direction is still there.

Stretching is necessary

If you are more than 50 and you still want to enjoy golfing and other fun activities, it may help to prepare yourself for the physicality of the activities.

Do some stretching exercises on a regular basis. This will prepare you for any game you want to enjoy including golf.

To help you continue improving your game even after age 50, you may need a mentor that knows golf and should be more than 50 as well.  Why is this so, this is to make sure that your mentor or coach understands the risk and thus will be able to teach you techniques that will not lead to problems later on.

Golfer’s wrist is painful and even if it is detected early, it may need months to heal and surgery in inevitable.

Thus, to make sure you will not succumb to hamate bone or golfer’s wrist, ensure proper handling of the golf club.  If you may need to change your golf club for a comfortable game, then do it.

You however do not need to indulge in purchasing expensive golf clubs; your comfort is the focus and you should be intelligent in purchasing your golf club.

Finally, walking is another form of exercise; avoid using the golf cart.  However, if you must make sure it is what your coach has advised.  Your doctor should also have a say, if you can continue golf.  Thus, check him out first before you continue golfing.

As a senior citizen, you will need to look after your health.  Exercise is good but please your doctor needs to know what activities you get yourself into.  He will therefore give you the advice you need.  If golfing is allowed, then, do it and enjoy playing.

Tips to Help Fix Your Golf Swing

February 11th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

One of the questions that I think a lot of people would like to know is, “how long will it take to fix my golf swing.” Below, I have outlined the various methods.  After reading them, it’s up to you to decide which approach you will take.

Swing Fix 1 - Buy New Clubs

One of the things everyone has tried at one time or another is to buy new clubs in the hopes that their game will change.   Now, I don’t want to totally discount this fix because buying new clubs can improve your golf game if you’re playing the wrong clubs, or your clubs are not properly fitted to you and your swing. What you should do, is find an experienced clubfitter and have your clubs fitted and your swing checked.

There’s another little know way that buying new clubs can fix your swing. Newer clubs feel different from your old clubs. When you hit shot with them, you aren’t thinking about your swing because they feel so different. This new feeling totally clears your mind but it doesn’t last long.A couple of weeks after using your new clubs, they don’t feel all that different so you start thinking about your swing again.  My advice here is to quit trying new clubs.

As I said earlier, your best bet is to seek out a clubfitter and have him fit you. Then, stay focused on working on your swing.

Swing Fix 2 - Trying Different Swing Tips

We’ve all picked up the latest golf magazine and tried the latest golf tips hoping they will magically get our game back on track. The thing is, most golfers are not experienced enough to determine if these tips would benefit their swing. If you don’t know your swing well enough and you keep trying these tips, you may make your swing worse. Plus, a tip is just a tip. It’s not necessarily going to help your swing fundamentals.

An example of this would be to change to a stronger grip.A tip like this may help you square the club a little better but it’s is not helping your develop a proper grip. You should be very careful the next time you go to work on the latest tip you find in a magazine, or from your buddy.  A good idea would be to discuss the tip with your head pro or teaching pro first to see if it would be a good fit for your game.  Then, and only then, would you attempt to try it.If it works, great!

Swing Fix 3 - No Focus

So many golfer’s are searching for the instant cure that they get caught up into experimenting with too many changes at once. This approach will never work.  Unfortunately, this is only going to lead to confusion.  Plus, you may have tried so many things that you can’t remember what worked and what didn’t.It may have been luck even if you did find something that worked. The way you can truly know if this approach is working is if your game improves well into the future.

Swing Fix 4 - Change One Thing at a Time

The best way to work on swing changes is to work on one thing at a time.  In doing so, you stay focused only on that thing which means you aren’t going to experiment and try 5 different things at once.   In order to work on your swing this way, you need to follow a method or work with a swing coach.  By focusing on  your swing like this, you’ll reenforce the changes because you won’t be getting sidetracked. Now, I know that you’re probably thinking this is going to take a long time.  When compared to the other fixes I mentioned, this really will be the fastest.

The reason is, the other ways I described only present a short term fix whereas, isolating one part of your swing develops the right fundamentals that will stay with your long into the future.

Learn The Mechanics Behind Your Golf Swing Properly

February 10th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

Golfers everywhere try to replicate the “perfect” golf swing to improve their game in leaps and bounds, making shots effortless and very professional. However, one thing to note that there is no such thing as the perfect golf swing as there is only a perfect golf swing for each player. As our bodies were made differently, so should our mentality in swinging a golf club. By adhering to basic principles and practicing everyday, anyone can achieve perfection and hit the ball onto the green every single time.

A lot of golfers suffer from not being able to hit either their drivers or irons right at all, causing slices and other problems with their swing. Some tend to have a “to blame” list: the weather, the slope, too much overtime affecting their game, or that they’re just warming up. One thing that many golfers forget to take a note of is the fact that basic motions are always the best way to go.

Here are six basic principles that can help you get the mechanics of your golf swing properly.

1. Alignment is crucial in hitting your target square. The fundamental concept behind a proper golf swing is hitting the ball dead center, which means that alignment is the most important basic in a proper golf swing.

2. Make sure that you have a comfortable stance that will let you rotate your body in the most effortless way possible. Think of your spine as an axis and find your center of gravity by pushing your backside out. Once you achieve that comfortable stance, then you should have less problems.

3. Keep a vigilant eye on what you are going to hit. This has got to be the most ignored rule as it seems so simple. However, this definitely is the most important rule to keep in mind as you have to see what you are supposed to hit in the first place the actually hit. This is all about common sense, so do it.

4. Be patient and keep your mind concentrated on your goal. After firmly planting your feet on ground try this with smooth thoughts. This is not about what happens next or what you did in the past. This is about the present, and you should always concentrate on what is now to achieve anything significant in the future. This way, you can achieve proper rhythm in your golf swing.

5. A good way of thinking is “sweep” for woods and “pinch” for irons. This may sound strange, but it can help you with your game as these are how clubs are designed. An iron is supposed to pinch the ball off the ground, while a driver is supposed to sweep it off the tee.

6. Humming a rhythm can help you keep your mind away from the golf swing and more on hitting the ball. These two things sound similar, but there is a fundamental difference. Thinking about the golf swing is a complication as it is more about technical aspects of the game, while hitting the ball is just the basic concept that the game is about.

Keeping things simple is the way to go as it helps you concentrate on the details that truly matter without making you panic when you do commit a mistake. A golfers enemies are Lack of self-esteem and fear.

Learn The Best Ways Of Putting Through Golf Swing Drills

February 10th, 2009 Golf Swing 0 Comment

After hitting the ball as close to the hole as possible, it is just a matter of putting so you can move on to the next one. While this may sound easy given the short distance, there are still some who have a hard time. To help you out, here are 4 golf swing drills you can try.

The first step is the one handed drill. You do this by practice putting ten balls using only your training hand. This drill lets you focus on the palm of your hand as it moves towards the cup.

Next, practice putting using your target hand. The emphasis here is for you to concentrate on your back hand moving towards the cup.

When you do this drill using either hand, be conscious of the toe of your putter in the follow through. Should this turn away from the cup or point toward it, this means you are turning your hand. So you know you are doing it right, the face of the putter should be square to the cup.

Another drill is to practice putting with one eye. Some golfers do this because it stops them from lifting their head prematurely. If you are a frequent player of this game, you can even try putting with your eyes closed.

But won’t closing your eyes make it harder for you to see where the ball is going? Yes but research has shown that when you try to putt with your eyes open, there is interference with the brain/muscle control system. By closing your eyes, you are relying more on your hands to guide the ball into the hole. And how will you know if the ball goes in? By making use of your sense of hearing.

To do this, you have to practice first putting first with your eyes open at a range of 10 to 50 feet from the hole. After successfully putting these balls with your eyes open, do the same thing this time with your eyes closed. If the ball goes in the hole, you know that sink the ball with your eyes closed.

Another eyes closed technique involves dropping some balls to the ground and just putting them. The objective here is simply to let you feel how the stroke flows back and forth. Do the same thing also with your eyes open. Now that you know the difference, try to incorporate that when you are putting the balls into the hole.

The last golf swing drill is called the alignment drill. To do this, you lay two clubs on the green about six inches apart and make sure that they are parallel to each other. Now putt the ball to see if your stroke is aligned at impact and steady on the back and forward stroke. Do this several times and if you get tired, take a break and rest for a while before resuming the drill.

Practicing some golf swing putting drills like those mentioned will surely help you improve on your game. Who can say? You might even win when you are playing 18 holes with friends. If you can do that at short distances, the only thing to practice on now is your long game because this is just as important as the short game.
